Look at this beautiful newborn baby girl who I got to photograph recently. She did fantastic during the photo session and I love Christmas themed images we took.
I talked to Liana's mom Lauren about the joys and challenges of being a first-time mom.
"We had such an awesome experience with Luba Cain Photography! We picked the combination mini maternity session and newborn session and enjoyed both experiences. The photos turned out beautiful from both sessions too. We even had trouble picking our top choices both times, as we liked so many of them! Luba is great with newborns in particular. Liana seemed so relaxed during the entire session with the relaxing background music and Luba’s calm presence there with her."
Tell us a little bit about your growing family!
My husband, Tom, and I welcomed our first child, Liana, to our family on November 13th! We also have two beloved cats, Dexter and Dimka, who already love their new human sister. Tom and I met in Massachusetts and have been married a little over four years. We moved to Texas about three years ago to pursue a job opportunity here and ended up buying our first home in Pflugerville in 2020.
How is your newborn baby doing?
Liana is doing wonderfully! She is now a little over five weeks old and already showing quite a bit of personality. Our girl is determined, always trying to move and pull herself into different positions, and curious, engaged in what’s happening around her. She loves cuddling, listening to music, and drinking lots of milk!
How did you come up with baby's name?
Liana is named in honor of our mothers, Lisa and Deliana. Tom and I both thought the name was pretty too.
What’s the hardest part about being a mom to a newborn?
Lack of sleep! Liana isn’t fond of sleeping in her bassinet yet either, so we often spend a lot of time holding her. Tom and I take turns, but I’m getting a lot less sleep these days.
Favorite thing about being a mom?
I love our cuddle time! Liana often smiles in her sleep while dreaming and is super cute. She loves to snuggle up in my arms too and, when she’s awake, she always stares so intently at me when I talk to her.
What pregnancy and parenting books did you read? Were they helpful?
My favorite books were Emily Oster’s Expecting Better and Cribsheet. She writes in a style similar to Freakanomics. Her books help you make evidence based pregnancy and parenting decisions that are right for you.
